15. The best gift you've given.
...was not a Christmas gift. My parents 30th anniversary, back in 1993, was a huge affair for them. They'd both turned 50 as well, so they reaffirmed their vows and threw themselves a huge reception with all their friends.
My dad's parents had passed away some years before, but my mom's parents were still alive. But Pop Pop had had a stroke the year before, and travel wasn't an option for them just then.
I arranged for my uncle to borrow a video camera and record a message from them, then ship it up to me. Then I arranged with the party facility and DJ to have a VCR and tv ready (1993, remember?). The DJ played a special - and unexpected - song as the video was wheeled out, and the video played. Mom cried.
I don't know if that was the best gift they ever got, but it's the one I gave that made me feel the best.
16. Hardest person to buy for.
My son in law. I'm still struggling for ideas.
It's frustrating to try to come up with something unique for the hard to buy for, at least that's how I feel when trying to find the right gift for my dad.
ReplyDeleteI bet everyone in your family regards that video as a treasure.
