June 5, 2014

It's been awhile since I posted anything from my MetMuseum calendar, but it's been awhile since the artwork inspired any kind of interest.

This is a Robe a'la Polonaise (Polish style dress) from 1780-85. It's yellow silk with flowers printed on. I like the bustling or draping or whatever it's called. There are other dresses in the Polish style on view at the Met as well, which is one of my preferred periods of history (Colonial/Revolution to early Federal) to study. All I really know about the fashion was that the elbows were considered particularly ugly and all sleeves went down below the elbow, no matter the season.
