June 20, 2014

I fell off the wagon again.  Today will be MetMuseum Art Appreciation Day.

From June 13, a ceramic Mayan vessel depicting a throne scene. From late 7th-8th Century Guatemala.

I like the bright colors, cartoonish style.

June 14-15: First Steps, after Millet (1890), by Vincent Van Gogh. Oil on Canvas.

(be sure to embiggen, because it's the detail that makes this painting so interesting. It reminds me a bit of Beatrix Potter).

June 16: A red silk/synthetic Valentino dress from 1987:
I love the color and draping.

June 20: Detail of View of the Island of San Giacomo in Paludo by Francesco Tironi (late 18th century). Pen and brown ink; grey wash.
The details in this one are also worth inspecting. Such great depth.
