w.w.w. Wednesday
To play along, just answer the following three (3) questions…
- What are you currently reading? Reading: Hark! A Vagrant
by Kate Beaton, and listening to Chill Factor: A Novel
by Sandra Brown
- What did you recently finish reading? America's Founding Food: The Story of New England Cooking
, by Keith Stavely
- What do you think you’ll read next? The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas
by John Boyne as an audiobook. Probably New York to Dallas (In Death)
in print. I keep putting it down to read something else.

Book review ~ Sybil Exposed, by Debbie Nathan
Sybil Exposed: The Extraordinary Story Behind the Famous Multiple Personality Case
It discusses the impact the book had on society and the psychiatric community in the mid 1970s, and how that played out in the adoption of recovered memory as a recognized goal of psychiatric treatment.
The book seemed thoroughly researched and scholarly, but I still felt the author's hostility toward Dr. Cornelia Wilbur. Nobody walks away innocent in Nathan's book, although "Sybil" is surely the most sympathetic.
What happened to "Sybil" was tragic and today might even be considered criminal. Dr. Wilbur's unorthodox and "revolutionary" treatments today would be looked at as a complete breach of medical and psychiatric ethics.

Charles Dickens 200th birthday
| via Google |
I doubt anyone reading this blog needs to be told who Dickens was, but it might interest you to know he's a distant relation of ours. His book A Christmas Carol has had a profound impact on how we celebrate Christmas as a family, as it has for many others.
Happy birthday, Uncle Chuck!

Diamond Jubilee
![]() |
| Queen Elizabeth then and now via The Mary Sue |
I'm not a big royal-watcher, but I do remember seeing Elizabeth's Silver Jubilee when I was a kid. The Queen Mum has been on the job for 60 years now, and not always with the entire approval of her subjects. Nevertheless, most Brits seem to love their Queen.

Art news: an update of the Mona Lisa
At the Prado in Spain, they've restored a copy of the Mona Lisa to what they believe is how it originally looked.
Here's a side-by-side comparison:

Pinterest Thursday
If you're not on Pinterest, you're missing out on some excellent visual experiences. Imagine organizing all the pictures that you like from the Internet into categories that you create, and then sharing them. That's Pinterest. It's a visual pinboard, sure. But it's also a great replacement for your favorites. And all kinds of fun.
Blast from the past
I'm not sure how I feel about this, so I decided to think that it's awesome.
