  1. I associate the Wizard of Oz with Eastertime. It was always broadcast at Easter and became part of the tradition. So did being frightened during the closeup of the Wicked Witch's face in the crystal ball as she cackled over her evil plans.

  2. Yes! That's my most scary scene from the Wizard of Oz, too! The monkeys never frightened me, and I'm never surprised that, once they're freed, they turn out to be decent chaps.

    I think we could make the argument that this is the best-loved film of all time. Children not even born yet will be enchanted by it, and Halloweens decades ahead will see little girls wearing blue/white checking dresses, braids and red shoes. Amazing, isn't it? I guess that makes this movie making at its best.

  3. I completely agree, Gal. There are some movies that stand the test of time, no matter whether their setting or special effects become out of date.
