Book review: An Object of Beauty, Steve Martin
An Object of Beauty tells the story of a woman's life in the art world as she works her way up from the basement of Sotheby's. Lacey is driven, selfish and often cold. Even so, she draws people to her and fascinates them.
I liked the story, and Martin's elegant, intelligent prose kept me coming back for more. He assumes you have an art vocabulary and doesn't dumb down his writing or bother to explain what he expects you to know.
I enjoyed the twist at the end, though I felt the story was unfinished. There was more that I wanted to know.
