Monday Movie Meme

Molly at The Bumbles Blog hosts the Monday Movie Meme.

This week's movie topic is all about Storms...

New England dodged the bullet formerly known as Hurricane Earl this weekend. Other spots weren't as lucky. Better to be prepared for nothing than surprised by the worst. All this non-stop storm coverage got us to thinking about movies featuring stormy weather. Here are some we thought of with storms playing a role in plot development, if not complete characters of their own. Share on your blog movies featuring storms big and small, linking back here at The Bumbles. And don't forget to visit your fellow participants!

Singin' in the Rain: This one may be obvious, and the storm isn't the feature part of the movie, but the show-stopper dance sequence around a Hollywood downpour is movie history.

Key Largo: Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall and Lionel Barrymore face off against Edward G. Robinson and his goons as a hurricane bears down on Key Largo, Florida. Classic.

Shutter Island: A Federal Marshall (Leonardo DiCaprio) hunts for a missing psychiatric patient on a remote island off the New England coast as a storm bears down.

  1. Isn't there a major storm at the beginning of Star Wars, too? ;-)

  2. How could I have ever forgotten about Shutter Island? Great choice!

  3. Kwizgiver is right - you could have sooooo used The Empire Strikes Back when Luke gets lost out in the freezing storm.

I am anxiously awaiting Shutter Island in the mail this week from Netflix - just finished the book!

  4. Can't believe I forgot Shutter Island! All it did in that movie was rain, rain, rain. The storm was almost a costar. Great inclusion.
