book of seasons: Autumnal equinox

Literally "equal night," as in, daylight and night time last the same amount of time. There are two exquini in the year, vernal (spring) and autumnal (autumn). The autumnal equinox is sacred to many cultures, and festivals revolve around the time.

Fun ideas to mark the equinox:
  • Have a thanksgiving feast
  • can and preserve fruits and vegetables
  • hang dried ears of corn on the front door
  • serve wine, beans, squashes, and other seasonal foods for dinner
  • do some gardening, especially harvesting
  • bake bread or cookies in autumn shapes
  • gather donations of food and/or clothing for a favorite charity
  • share some hot apple cider, spiced with cinnamon
  • focus on protection, wealth and prosperity, security, balance and harmony
