enviro-mental archives: Flow kitchen system

John Arndt designed this modular kitchen storage system to create an interactive/integrated living system, "utilizing the waste of one system as nutrient or fuel for another."

Runoff from the dish drain/storage waters the edible plants below. Waste from the edible plants and other organic kitchen items feeds the worm composter, which produces mulch for the plants.

The earthenware storage boxes can serve multiple functions, and their lids can be used as hot plates. They're stackable and arrangeable. The largest can serve as an evaporative cooler.

I'd put the whole thing on a cutting board-surfaced area, dropping a dry sink as he's done here. Put the mini-kitchen on there, include some running water, and you're all set.
