Providence Daily Dose
was practically gleeful when they reported that Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich was arrested today on corruption charges. It's not surprising for Chicago politics, just disappointing. Blagojevich ran on a platform of ousting the corrupt Daly and Ryan machines, and now look:

" According to the statement, Blagojevich is alleged to have discussed obtaining:

  • a substantial salary for himself at either a non-profit foundation or an organization affiliated with labor unions;
  • a spot for his wife on paid corporate boards, where he speculated she might garner as much as $150,000 a year;
  • promises of campaign funds -- including cash up front;
  • a Cabinet post or ambassadorship for himself."
All this plus refusing state funding to the ailing Tribune Company unless reporters critical of his administration were fired, and supposedly offering an appointment to Barack Obama's former Senate seat to the highest bidder.

No, really.

Is someone keeping track of the number of governors lost to corruption and scandal in the last five years? You need a scorecard.
