At last! No-brainer homemade chicken soup

I am a soup-making failure. Every time I've tried to create soup from a fowl carcass, it comes out a tasteless disaster.

Lifehacker contributor Kelly Abbott explains the basics for me in a "I finally get it!" way, using a store-bough rotisserie chicken. This would probably also work with a homemade baked or rotisseried chicken, but as I said, I'm a soup failure. My first attempt will be store-boughten.
