Disney on Ice

photo: Entertainment Weekly

I was gifted with free, rinkside tickets to Disney On Ice at the Dunkin Donuts Center in Provi. It was both exactly and much more than I expected. The skating was better than I expected, with lots of jumps and tricks, however quite a few bobbles. The stories were definitely geared to the youngest set, four, five and six year olds. The effects were very good, however, and the first act had a nice encapsulation of The Little Mermaid. There was also a scene based on Cars and a reduced version of The Lion King. The costumes for Lion King were extraordinary, especially the giraffes and birds. The second act centers around Tinkerbell and her life lesson: don't try to be something you're not. Which can also be interpreted as: Don't try new things, you'll fail. Or, Stay in your rut.

All in all, I had a good time.

  1. Gosh, I have not seen ice skating away from TV since I was a kid and maybe not even THEN. Circuses I remember, but not so clearly, ice skating. This must have been so fun and I can hear the laughter and ooos and ahhhs of all the children.
