Movie review: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

Disney's first animated feature, and the first to come out of the United States, Snow White is a masterpiece in watercolor and animation. It's a fun occasional watch, with wonderful artwork and animated special effects.

Although it may be Disney's best work, and probably one of the most beautiful, it's not really my favorite. Mostly because I find Snow White's voice irritating. It's definitely got a 30's look to it that's interesting.

I like watching Disney movies from different eras to get a sense of that time period's ideal of beauty. Snow White is very youthful, round-faced and baby fat, as compared to Cinderella, who's a bit more slender, and Aurora, who's taller and more slender still. Ariel is downright anorexic, with an overlarge head.

But I digress. The wicked queen is creepily evil and fun to watch. The dwarves are great comic relief. The prince - like many Disney princes - only puts in a brief appearance. The forest animals are a cute diversion.
