John Wayne and John Ford team up to make what many consider the premiere Western. I'm just not a Western person.
The story involves the search for a girl kidnapped by Commanche during a raid.
The cinematography of the American West is awesome. Wayne as Ethan Edwards is very good as a man with questionable and changeable motives in the chase. His foil is Jeffrey Hunter, who's excellent as Martin Pawley, adopted brother of the abducted girl. Not too bright, but with a strong sense of familial tie and duty, his unwavering dedication is a sharp contrast and makes the Wayne's ruthlessness and disdain for the Commanche even more apparent.
I'm glad I saw this, but I really don't think I'll need to see it again.
