Movie review: A Place in the Sun

A moralistic tale about people with no morals. Montgomery Clift is George Eastman, the poor relation of a corporate magnate. He gets a job in the garment company, starting at the very bottom.

He runs into plain, dumpy Alice (Shelley Winters) and the two start a romance-by-default. George is just waiting for someone better to come along. Alice wants to get married. It’s a shame that just about the time he meets the local debutante (Elizabeth Taylor) and finds a much easier climb up the social ladder. If only he could get rid of Alice.

Alice, however, is not inclined to disappear….

I wish I could say I liked this movie, but I just didn’t.
