A darling musical based on the novel by Collette about a young, impetuous, slightly inept young woman (Gigi, played charmingly by Leslie Caron) being reared into the family business of being a courtesan.
At the same time, a young man - an old friend of the family played by Louis Jourdan - has returned from abroad, bored and world-weary. They fall in love after a few missteps. Gigi is skeptical about love. Gaston is skeptical about everything.
Maurice Chevalier as Gaston's uncle Honore is adorable in a good-hearted romantic sort of way. Played incorrectly, he'd be considered a lecher. Chevalier makes him adorable.
