Jimmy Stewart turns 100

I just love Jimmy Stewart. He's the kind of guy you wish was your uncle or grandpa. Gentle, a bit bumblingly awkward, charming. He could be "gee-golly," or seethe with intensity.

He was in my favorite movie, The Philadelphia Story with Katharine Hepburn, and won the Best Actor Oscar for his performance. He also took home Lifetime Achievement Awards from the Academy, the Golden Globes, Berlin International Film Festival, SAG, AFI and National Board of Review.

Stewart worked with some of the great directors: Cukor, Capra, Hitchcock. His career spanned 56 years, from 1935 to 1991.

An amazing career, and a wonderful man. I wish he were still around to celebrate.
